Summary

Co-Founding and creating the YBuy platform was likely the greatest learning experience in my professional career. From website design and development, social media marketing, digital advertisement (Facebook Ads and Google Adwords), to email marketing, I built the YBuy brand from the ground up. The Edmonton based start-up did not get off of the ground due to turbulence with partners involved in the project, but the short time spent on this company felt like a lifetime, and I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.

Story

YBuy was founded to answer a big question posed by many people: "How do I enjoy the outdoors without the cost of equipment ownership?"

Renters are enabled to access toys that generally sit idle a large portion of the year at a reasonable price. Owners, on the other hand, can list equipment and put valuable dollars back in their pockets from traditionally costly assets such as Boats, Personal Watercraft, ATVs, Travel Trailers, Dirt Bikes, and more.

 

Founded in March of 2018 in Edmonton Alberta, YBuy aggregates the recreational equipment market, facilitating the interaction and connection of owners and renters. This all-inclusive platform creates, fosters, and connects a community of individuals seeking experience driven activities through a unique approach of leveraging new technology and networks.

Results

We launched the platform in June of 2018, between July and August we had seen...

A 130% increase in new visitors 6 week comparison to the prior period.

An average week over week increase in membership of approximately 32%.

Unique New Visitor increases of ~34%.

Approximately an 18% increase in equipment listings on average per week.

 

Developing and designing the YBuy website, email marketing approach, social media strategy and positioning platform, has been an incredible challenge and learning experience. Of which paid off, we had seen incredible results and success in the short lifetime of the online marketplace before moving onto new experiences.
